lake association update By: jodilozier

RIDINGER LAKE NEWSLETTER
It finally feels like summer here at the lake and the weather looks to be quite nice for the holiday weekend. I wanted to remind everyone of the events planned here at the lake. On Saturday will be our fourth annual Kids Parade. Kids can decorate their bikes, golf carts, themselves and their dogs and parade up and down R4 to show their patriotic spirit. The parade will begin sharply at eleven, Saturday the 2nd. The route will be the same as year’s past, up the paved road (R4) to the turn around and then back to the beach for awards. We are in need of spectators to line the parade route and help us judge the participants. Every child will receive a goody bag for their participation, courtesy of the lake association. If you are on your boat you should be able to get a glimpse of the parade from the Northeast end of the lake, in front of the turn around or in front of the beach as we wind things down. Saturday evening will be the fireworks show courtesy of Jellystone. It is a first rate show and we are fortunate to be able to view it from the lake, your yards or the beach. It is nice to enjoy such quality fireworks without the hassle of traffic and parking. Should it rain the fireworks will be Sunday.
In old business, we had a guest speaker at the spring meeting inform us on the problem of meth in our area. I think I can speak for everyone in saying that we learned a lot about how it is made and how it affects the users. I have attached notes that were taken from your review. Should you find anything suspicious in the neighborhoods, along the road or on the shoreline it is advised to leave it and contact the police for disposal. This is not something we want in our neighborhoods or affecting our water quality.
Thanks to those who helped with all the work involved in the garage sale. I really appreciate all of you who save items specifically to donate to this. We sold a lot of stuff! I appreciate all who gave time pricing and sorting beforehand and those who helped the day of the sale. One or two people could not do it alone.
There are still items that people are missing from the high water we had earlier this year. There is a solar lighthouse that floated off. It was a gift and has sentimental value to the owner. If you have found it they would appreciate having it back. Also missing are some pier sections. If you have news on any of these, please let me know and we will try and get them returned. A small pier section has been found so if this sounds like yours, contact me as well.
The first Saturday in August is our day long “Fun Fest”. We are working on many activities you can participate in as you are interested. Among those are a corn hole tournament, fishing contest, basketball tournament, Ridinger lake trivia contest, and a Hand and Foot card tournament. If you are not familiar with the latter, it is a canasta card game that has been played around the lake for years. It is easy to learn and there people willing to teach you. Please contact me if you would like to learn. We will culminate the day with a carry in dinner. If there is an activity you would like to see added, let me know. Also contact me if you would like to volunteer to help.
Lastly, our annual dues are $35.00, payable to the RLPOA for short. This funds our activities, maintains the beach road on the East side and gives you access to the lake association property, i.e. the beach and pier spaces, among other things. I would like to point out that there is no long term parking along the association parking and beach area. There are no assigned parking spots. Parking to unload/load is fine.
Have a great holiday weekend. Enjoy your family and friends and be safe. Notes from Presentation by Andy Cochran Concerning Meth Use • Andy Cochran is a State Trooper from Bremen Post • Meth is the most addicting drug on the market today. It has a 90% addiction rate after 1st time. Only 6% are able to get off of it once addicted. • Users become very paranoid and show symptoms of schizophrenia. • Users have a life span of 3-4 years. • Smell is an ammonia/ cat urine/ Coleman gas • It can be made anywhere with common household items. It is made in a bottle (two litter or similar). It only takes 2-3 hours to make a batch. • A high can last from 18-24 hours. • Sudafed is the main ingredient. • Trash items to watch for. If you find these items, contact the Kosciusko Drug Task Force. o 2-liter bottles or similar ( If you find these with tubing attached do not touch, immediately contact police) o Camp fuel cans o Lye o Salt o Cold packs o Batteries
• Take note of these activities o Random activity, lots of cars in and out, feel free to track license plates and times of heavier traffic. The more information you can report the more it will help. o People leaving with bags of stuff and coming back 2-3 hours later
* Indiana is the second in production of Meth. Kosciusko County is second in our state. The Drug Task force will take all tips seriously. Andy says he feels part of the reason we are second is because of the diligence of our county task force
