Ridinger Lake

I was asked to right a brief article about Ridinger Lake for the Indiana Lakes Management Society's next newsletter. The following is what I submitted

Ridinger Lake is located in Kosciusko County near the town of Pierceton. It is 136 acres in size with a 10 mph speed limit. There are approximately 150 properties on and around the lake. This does not include the residences at Jellystone Campground which is on the West side of the lake. As a no wake lake the residents on Ridinger enjoy canoeing, fishing, swimming, and as lake people understand, just being around the water.

Ridinger has an active lake association with voluntary membership. The lake association was started in the 1960's. The lake association has participated in the LARE program to receive help with controlling Eurasian Milfoil and most recently sediment removal along the inlet.

Those are the facts concerning Ridinger Lake. What is Ridinger really like? This is lake living as seen through the eyes of four young boys on a warm spring day. Robby likes catching the turtles and frogs, especially big bullfrogs in the summer. Josh likes fishing. Bass are his favorite to catch. Tyler enjoys hunting and seeing the ducks and something called "mudwars". I'll let you draw your own conclusion on what that is! Junior likes swimming at the beach. They all agreed they liked riding bikes and "community". I can only infer that community is that something extra a lake community possesses. Neighbors who know each other and lend a hand even if you only see them on the weekends. It is the parades and flotillas and beach parties that make summer special. And it is the time adults take to teach the next generation about how special it is to live on a lake. It is how the lake shares so many wonderful things with us and with a little care from us will continue to do so.
